Eastern Peloponese 2012 – 18/10/2012

It was the fourth time that we sailed with S/Y Antiope from Athens.

We had a wonderful time visiting beautiful places : Poros with its nice little beach, Ermioni with its artistic shops, Kiparrissi, Plaka with its large beach, Ieraka, a very authentic village, Monemvasia with its ancient village. The more you go to the south the more hospitable the Greek people are

Sailing on the blue seas of Greece is a wonderful experience. We have seen dolphins and sea turtles.

We are certainly going back next year!

Ionian islands (Lefkas, Ithaca, Paxoi, Corfu) – 26/10/2011

During last September, I and my wife had a week of sailing vacations in Ionian islands.

Starting our trip from Lefkas, we first sailed South visiting Ithaca and then North, going to Paxoi and Corfu where we delivered the boat.

We enjoyed much staying on anchor in the bays of Ithaca. Paxoi port is also amazing but the most fascinating was our tuna fishing! Many sailors trol a fishing line with a small fish for bait during sailing, trying to catch a fish. But very fast they are disappointed as they do not have results. Insisting is the secret! After all it does not cost anything to drag the fish! And after five days of disappointment, we finally caught three small tuna fishes! So keep on trying and good luck!

The Corinth canal – Greece – 05/09/2011

On September 2011, me and my family passed the Corinth canal. Our plan was to have our vacation in the beautiful Ionian islands: Ithaca, Lefkas, Paxoi and Corfu.
It is an exciting experience to drive a yacht between two extra high walls (52m.) for about half an hour, since the canal is 6.3 km long (3.9 miles), water depth of 8m (26 feet).
If you intend to pass the Corinth canal, you should turn the VHF on channel 11 and follow the orders of the canal’s officer.

The greek islands are the paradise on earth, so next year we will be here again for the Cyclades islands.

The Rion Andirrion bridge – 09/03/2011

The Rion and Andirrion strait, only one mile wide, is the western entrance to the golf of Corinth.
We crossed this strait last year on our way to Lefkas under the suspension cable bridge. We sailed straight on to the center for maximum depth. At this point the height of the bridge is 80-100 meters.
It is suggested to inform the bridge control VHF ch 08 while crossing and watch for the ferries going often from Rion to Antirrion and backwards.

Between Myconos and Syros islands – 05/09/2010

Fortunately Greek islands provide the most safe waters for sailing in the world:

No sharks, no pirates, not any other danger exists there.

In this picture we had a nice swimming time in the area between Mykonos and Syros islands.
We stopped the yacht in order to swim with some dolphins my mom first saw.
But we had no luck, since the dolphins were so busy and “flew” away!

Saronic – 18/06/2010

Me and my husband, we decided to spend a week sailing around Saronic during June 2010. We are familiar with the area as we have sailed there quite a lot of times, but we could not sail far away this year as we had one passenger more: our 8 months baby! Sailing with a baby was some a decision as we had to carry on board so many things (dippers, milk, cream, fruits etc). We had also to dock in a port every day for fresh fruits and meat. No mention about looking after the baby all the time! My husband had to sail almost single handed, but we survived! The baby reacted quite well as he was sleeping almost every time we were sailing and crying every time we had to anchor! This was not so bad, as so many people volunteered to help us with the ropes! If you try to sail with a baby remember to take with you a lot of bottled water as you’d better avoid washing anything that the baby is going to use with the water from the tanks.

Skiathos – 30/01/2010

There are several methods of catching an octopus. Last summer I’ve been in the Greek islands with my wife (Sporades). We have been on the sailing yacht drinking our evening coffee, while I noticed an octopus just a few inches under the water. I was very surprised by how easy this dummy creature captured! I only used a hook an a lin! Although they can be easily invisible, it is very common to see octopuses in Greek marinas and beaches. Try you too!

Serifos, Cyclades – 16/05/2008

We sailed from Athens on the 19th of April this year and visited Aigina, Kithnos, Siros, Tinos, Paros, Serifos, Kithnos again and Sounion on our way back to Athens. We had hired a boat through Paralos Sailing and Lefteris gave us a fabulous service. We celebrated the Greek Easter which was both a spectacular and spiritual experience.

This was my second time in the Cyclades and I enjoy that all the islands are so different from each other.

There were six of us onboard and I was the only one who had sailed there before. They all loved it very much and I am sure we will be back again.
